Founder and director of Considered Thinking Ltd, focusing on executive coaching, mentoring, training and business processes, primarily within the creative industries.
John has worked in international business development and management for over 25 years, with significant experience across many sectors and environments, including multinational corporate, SME, education, voluntary, charity, public sector and health. He has a passion for self improvement and developing other people, with a track record of nurturing talent.
John co-founded Park Circus in 2003 and was instrumental in successfully building the company from part-time start-up to the leading worldwide distributor of classic and back catalogue films for theatrical exhibition, representing major Hollywood studios and other rights holders, with offices in UK, USA and France. The company was successfully sold to Arts Alliance in 2014, with John playing a key, enabling role within the negotiations. John remains a non-executive director of Park Circus, and has been supporting the management team during a major period of development and transition.
A key all-rounder, John’s experience within the film industry covers distribution, sales and acquisitions for theatrical and home entertainment, together with cinema exhibition. As Joint Managing Director of Park Circus, John’s focus was on business development, marketing, finance, legal and human resources. In addition, his management skills ensured year on year growth, consistent profit and a highly motivated and efficient team. Prior to Park Circus, John was responsible for the marketing of Glasgow Film Theatre, a leading independent specialist cinema.
Before entering the film industry, John worked for over a decade for the US electronics giant, Motorola, where he held a number of senior international management positions with a focus on new product definition, marketing, communications and customer satisfaction.
With a formal education in digital technology (Bachelor of Engineering, Electronic Systems, University of Glasgow), John has precise attention to detail, particularly around processes, operations and problem solving through clever thinking and the implementation of effective systems. Intensive continued learning throughout his career includes: MEDIA Business School’s Audiovisual Strategic Business Planning (2013) and Marketing & Distribution (2008), Inside Pictures film business leadership (2010) and NESTA’s Take12:UK Digital Technologies (2010) programmes. He is currently undertaking an accredited formal coaching qualification.
