A producer of both Oscar winning and multiple BAFTA and BIFA nominations for her work, Mia has been in the film industry for 21 years with extensive experience in sales marketing and distribution.

As Creative Producer and Marketing/Distribution Consultant for Film London MICROWAVE (partnered with BBC Films), we have overseen the creative elements from script to screen of 7 feature films 2007-12 and another 4 to oversee from Feb 2012-13. Those films include the BAFTA and BIFA nominated SHIFTY, MUM & DAD, the recent STRAWBERRY FIELDS, THE BRITISH GUIDE TO SHOWING OFF, ILL MANORS, and BORROWED TIME. ILL MANORS received 4 British Indie Film Award nominations in Oct 2012 and was one of the most acclaimed British debuts of 2012. Upcoming projects are with writer/directors Jim Cartwright and Tony Grisoni. Our films have received a total of 8 BIFA nominations and a BAFTA nomination for best debut, and all have received theatrical releases in the UK.

Missing In Action Films was founded by Mia Bays in 2003 Before becoming a producer Mia worked in some of the top sales, distribution and exhibition companies in the UK.

As a producer or consultant, we are working with many talented writers and directors Jay Basu (one of the Uk’s hottest screenwriters), Sundance prizewinner and Indie Spirit new talent nominee John Maringouin (BIG RIVER MAN, RUNNING STUMBLED), Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT, DREDD), world class photographer Tim Walker and multiple Oscar nominee Lucy Walker (WASTELAND).

To date, Missing In Action Films have produced the Oscar winning BAFTA nominated short SIX SHOOTER by Martin McDonagh, EX MEMORIA by Josh Appignanesi, nominated for a British Indie Film Award 2006, and the acclaimed BAFTA-nominated documentary feature SCOTT WALKER – 30 CENTURY MAN by Stephen Kijak – which Verve released in the UK, Madman in Australia and Oscilloscope in the U.S for which Mia received a BAFTA nomination for best debut feature.

We also work on one or two films a year as a marketing consultant or strategist. Credits to date are FIRE IN BABYLON (Cert 12), TSOTSI the Oscar winning film by Gavin Hood and currently with Penny Woolcock and Rare Day on their feature ONE MILE AWAY which won the top prize, the Michael Powell Award at 2012’s Edinburgh Film Festival.

Formerly Head of Distribution at The Film Consortium, Mia has worked with such talent as Ang Lee, Shekhar Kapur, Ian McKellen, Michael Winterbottom, John Sayles, Gavin Hood and Alain Resnais on over 50 features.

Films for 2013 are a feature doc on The Backstreet Boys for Pulse Films, reteaming with director Stephen Kijak (STONES IN EXILE, SCOTT WALKER), and ‘GBH’ written by Jay Basu (FAST GIRLS) based on the novel by Ted Lewis, to be directed by Pete Travis (DREDD), produced with Charles Steel (LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, MARLEY).
