Philipp Hoffmann | Freelance

Philipp Hoffmann studied Film with a specialization in Production at the ifs internationale filmschule in Cologne. During his studies he produced seven short films (several of which are award-winning), developed a student scholarship fund and graduated with a B.A. in Film Studies in 2005.

Both before and after his studies, he completed internships and worked at several companies in the film and television industry such as Eyeworks Entertainment, Cologne Gemini Filmproduktion (today: Eyeworks Fiction & Film, KirchMedia Entertainment (today: Constantin Entertainment) and Wiedemann & Berg Filmproduktion. Philipp also did script coverage and analysis for the feature film division at RTL Television.

In 2007, he spent six months as an intern at Film Movement in New York, before returning to his former employer “The Match Factory” where, since October 2007, he worked as the Head of Marketing. During this time, he oversaw the international marketing and the festival premieres for several successful and award-winning films such as Ari Folman’s WALTZ WITH BASHIR, Fatih Akin’s SOUL KITCHEN, and Sherry Hormann’s DESERT FLOWER. Philipp Hoffmann has attended numerous festivals in Europe, North America and Asia (including Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Seattle, Sundance, Haugesund, Reykjavik, Hong Kong, Pusan, Tokyo) where he represented the company. During his time there, several films distributed by The Match Factory won numerous awards including a Palm D’Or in Cannes, two Golden Bears in Berlin and a Golden Globe. In addition, four films received Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Film. With ARAF – SOMEWHERE INBETWEEN by Yesim Ustaoglu, Philipp was also responsible for one of the very few The Match Factory co-productions.

Since April 2011, Philipp Hoffmann consults production companies and institutions in the field of international sales, project and corporate marketing as well as Video-on-Demand.

Philipp conducts seminars about world sales and distribution as well as international marketing at the NIPKOW Program (Berlin), Media Business School (Ronda/Spain), ifs internationale filmschule (Cologne/ Germany) and the University of Popular Music and Music Business (Mannheim/ Germany).
