International Film Festival Rotterdam · CineMart

International Film Festival Rotterdam – CineMart The International Film Festival Rotterdam focuses on independent and innovative cinema. Priding itself on being a supportive platform where both audiences and industry are invited to look ahead, the IFFR is a festival that reflects on the way in which cinema is now, but also as it may come to be. Combining within its organisation a festival, a fund and a co-production market, the International Film Festival Rotterdam offers a launching pad and supportive platform for innovative and talented independent filmmakers. The Hubert Bals Fund offers script development- or post production-grants to independent filmmakers in southern or developing countries while the CineMart acts as strong matchmaker in financing low and medium budget film projects.

CineMart was the first platform in its form to offer film makers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects financed. Every year, the CineMart invites a select number of directors/producers to present their film projects to a group of around 800 potential co-producers, bankers, funds, sales agents, distributors, TV stations and other potential financiers and information sources. The heart of those four days are formed by the one-to-one meetings between the project representatives and possible financiers. Besides these meetings there are many more informal networking opportunities such as daily breakfasts, lunches, cocktails and several parties.

CineMart Trademarks

One of CineMart’s trademarks is the highly productive, yet informal atmosphere. In order to maintain such an environment, the number of projects is kept to around 35 and the invitation process is selective. The four-day event takes place concurrent with the IFFR and shares its location with the festival centre, De Doelen, in the heart of Rotterdam.

CineMart Dossier & Meeting Schedule

The CineMart staff organises the CineMart meetings prior to the event. After the project selection is completed, the CineMart staff creates a dossier with information on the selected projects. Attending professionals then inform the CineMart on their interests and a master meeting schedule is set-up. Upon arrival in Rotterdam, all guests receive their personal meeting schedule.

CineMart Guests

CineMart is an on invitation only market. The list of industry delegates attending CineMart is carefully reviewed every year in order to ensure that the attending industry can contribute to the projects in the CineMart selection. CineMart accredited guests are provided access to all festival and CineMart activities, get free admissions to public screenings, access to press & industry screenings and the Video Library. Invitations are sent out halfway November.

Rotterdam Lab

The CineMart staff also organises Rotterdam Lab, a 5-day training workshop for young and emerging producers designed to build up their international network and their experience at an international festival and market. The participants of the Rotterdam Lab are nominated through the partnering organisations of CineMart. During CineMart, a group of approximately 70 producers from all over the world is invited to Rotterdam. A five day programme is set up for them, including plenary and more intimate sessions with key members of the international industry, during which the producers can talk about their projects and about the possibilities to get them financed.
